Disclosure Statement

In light of the FTC's recent concern about disclosure on mom-blogging websites, I have written this disclosure statement for you.

The books reviewed on this site are sent to me from authors, publishing companies and publicists. Both books and galleys are submitted, usually preceded by a query asking me if I am interested or have the time to review the book. Other books are checked out of the library by me for review. I look for recently published books but occasionally review older books.

I accept books based on personal interest since I am looking for books that I think will appeal to my kids and the families that read my blog/website, but I am generally open to all books for ages 0-12. Self-published authors are always welcome to contact me to inquire about a book they sent that did not get a review.

I do not charge a fee for book reviews (nor do I accept any monetary payment or gifts for reviews) but I do keep many of the books, using them for homeschooling or giving them away as gifts to my children or nieces and nephews. I would estimate that a little more than half of all the books I review for the year become 'secret Santa' presents for the children in my area that would otherwise not have presents for Christmas. In 2009 my children and I gave out 100/205 books as 'secret Santa' gifts.

The reviews I post are truly my own feelings about the story I have just read. I try to reflect the excitement and interest my kids and I have.

Honestly, the main reason I post children's book reviews is simply because my children and I love to read and I have fun sharing these books with you.
