Paperback: 324 pages
Publisher: Tanglewood Press (June 16, 2010)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1933718277

Book Description: Andrea is a princess who does not enjoy being one. She dreams of being a knight but she is forced to learn to be a lady like her older sisters. Her life is filled with talk of succession, marriage, and spite and kindness from her sisters. Just when her country is on the brink of war, Andrea stumbles upon an alternative world where she learns strange new things. A world called Earth. Andrea is forced to make decisions that will either save or doom her world, not to mention ours.
Book Review: This book gives you an interesting perspective on what Earth looks like to an outsider and how we sometimes take things for granted. Andrea is a headstrong and curious young lady who keeps the story moving forward.

+ + + + Ortega
Author: Maureen Fergus
Reading level: Ages 9-12
Hardcover: 224 pages
Publisher: Kids Can Press, Ltd. (March 1, 2010)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1554534747
ISBN-13: 978-1554534746
Book description: With a thick finger he slowly traced the path of a stray raindrop that had landed near the corner of his eye and trickled down his cheek. And he thought to himself that it was probably a very good thing that gorillas didn t know how to cry.
Raised in a laboratory, Ortega might seem nearly human to his scientist-caregivers, but to the children at his new school, a talking gorilla is nothing but a freak. Unless he wants to spend the rest of his life locked in a cage, however, Ortega is going to have to change people s minds.
More than a comic-adventure novel, Ortega asks the reader to reflect upon the limits of science, imagine how it feels to be profoundly different from those around you and, most of all, consider what it really means to be human.
Book review: I thought this was a really interesting story because it makes you think about animals and humans and how similar they are. This is a very believable story with excellent character development. I was both amused and brought to tears–an excellent unforgettable story that really makes you think long after the turn of the last page.

ISBN-10: 1554533406

Book description: It s a bright spring day in the farmyard and Kitten is meeting all sorts of animals and their young, including frogs and tadpoles, owls and owlets and many more. In this first book in the Kitten series, rhyming couplets capture the animals sounds and actions, making it a fantastic interactive read-aloud. Young readers will enjoy mimicking animal sounds, picking out seasonal details in the exquisite mixed-media art and searching for and finding Kitten on every page.
Book review: The mixed-media artwork is eye-catching and delights the young reader. My little one finds this type of artwork fascinating and he devours the detail on each page. This is a fun book that inspires sound and little ones will love the mother and young pairings for each type of animal.

* The Astonishing Journey of Teddy Bodain
Author: Melissa Forney
Illustrator: Dave Olson
Hardcover
Publisher: Buttery Moon Multimedia, Inc. (2009)
ISBN-10: 0979009456
ISBN-13: 978-0979009457′
Book description: Told through 130 letters to her best friend, Martha, each of which includes memorable characters and original, historically accurate illustrations, The Astonishing Journey of Teddy Bodain is an engaging, adventure-filled novel for the intermediate reader. A classic-in-the-making, Teddy’s story takes her through the ravages of a yellow fever outbreak, to the Ringling Circus, to the backwoods of primitive Florida-hundreds of miles away to the promise of land-down below Lake Okeechobee.
Book review: An interesting tale about a young girl who is traveling to Florida with her family in a wagon train. Teddy Bodain is smart tomboy who is curious about life and optimistic.
Recommended for younger children (10 yrs) and for people interested in historical fiction. If you like Little House on The Prairie, you’ll like this one. The illustrations were a nice touch.

* * * Ten Hats: A Counting Book
Author: Carolyn Mott Ford
Illustrator: Jack Gordon
Paperback: 34 pages
Publisher: E & E Publishing (September 11, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0979160626
ISBN-13: 978-0979160622
Book description: This is a counting book showing the different kinds of hats worn by amusing animal characters doing different jobs. It ends with the hat worn by a kindergarten graduate (a young bunny), with the promise that “you can be anything you want to be!” Can serve as an early reader.
Book review: The perfect book for your little reader! Counting backwards, ‘playing dress-up’ and dreaming big! The repetition is fun and seeing who wears the next hat is a definitely a big hook. Loved the concept and the ending. A worthwhile book that offers something more than just counting.
